2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Sedan
If you are a fan of the AMG division from Mercedes, then you are going to love this new edition. This E63 is packing an AMG twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine producing a mind-bending 603- horsepower engine. This is Ferrari and Lamborghini territory, all in a sedan!
And what is best is that comes with Mercedes Benz 4-Matic+ all-wheel-drive system which will make sure all that power is neatly and efficiently planted in the road and not up against a tree.
All this power and technology helps the E63 AMG reach 0-60 mph in just 3 seconds. This is quicker than the Hellcat and the CTS-V, here is where German engineering really stands out from American muscle, as both of those cars have more powerful engines and the Cadillac is almost 500 pounds lighter. And it isn’t the only sports car that it beats here are a few more worthwhile mentions:
Mercedes AMG GT S
McLaren 570GT
Porsche 911 Carreras
Ties with the Porsche Panamera Turbo
As you can see all these are high performing machines are all beat by the new E63 AMG, and what’s best is once you’re done at the race track you can go and pick up your groceries on the way home while the kids play in the back seat.
Now to the rest of the car
The E63 comes equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires which if partnered with the optional $8950 carbon ceramic brake pads will have you stopping flat from 70 miles per hour in an eye-popping 155 feet.
As expected from any sports sedan, in the highway the Merc drives decently and quiet when set in comfort mode, while at the same time the sports seats beg you to switch it into Sports, Sports+ or Race mode for a more aggressive feel. And does it ever change the feel of the car, if you are brave enough to switch it to one of these settings, the AMG becomes a psychopath, ready to just rip on the read and go sideways. At least that’s how I felt.
Never the less, this car is a true monster, so drivers have to be prepared and somewhat used to larger engine machines as this AMG will have you testing your reflexes.
Sport, Sport+ & Race Mode
Did we tell you that you can switch its 4Matic+ system into putting 100 percent of the engine torque into the rear wheels? Well, it can and the results include head pulling, tire eating, smoke making drama. All creating some amazing sideways action as well as more fun than you can ever imagine. Do this at your own risk, as switching into this mode you are officially unleashing a 603 horsepower, rear wheel muscle car with 0 stability control, so you better be a good driver or you the results of such mix could be catastrophic.
So I love the power, I love the looks and I love that I can drive it all year round. Whats not to love? well for once the ride is backbreaking if the road you are driving on an isnt paved yearly, which if you live in any of the snow season states and provinces it likely isn’t perfect. And the price, the E63 AMG with a nice row of optional upgrades will end up costing you about $135,000 USD, which for a 603 all year round 4 door race car is not a bad deal, comparable European vehicles will cost you an additional 20k.
So are you a family man looking for your next ride and have an extra 135k burning in your pocket? if so, I do encourage you test this E63 AMG, you will be glad you did.
